The vision for this project is to create a high-quality hub for female sport, student development and the wider community. Key Features

  • All-Weather Synthetic Turf Pitch (STP) providing year-round football and PE provision.
  • Improved Lighting to support the safe use of sports facilities.
  • Cricket Provision through the repositioning of the artificial cricket wicket.
  • Community Access supporting local clubs and community groups outside school hours.

Planning Application Details

Application Reference 2026/1219
Submitted to Elmbridge Council Planning Department
Consultation closes 17 July 2026
Planning decision date 14 September 2026
Current status Registered

All planning documents, drawings and technical reports can be viewed via the Elmbridge Borough Council planning portal, using this link.  The portal should be considered the definitive source of information regarding this application.

Site Layout

The new STP will be located on the western side of the school site, replacing a redundant hard court and an area of grassed playing field. The proposed netball floodlighting will be positioned around the perimeter of the existing courts.

Sustainability

The site is already accessible by sustainable modes of transport including walking, cycling and public transport. Existing parking provision and secure cycle storage are available on site. The school is already a well-used community venue outside normal school hours, hosting a wide range of sports clubs, lettings and events throughout the year. This proposal builds on this established use and is not expected to result in a significant increase in traffic movements.

Environmental

The technical surveys report the impact on ecological value as minimal, with only areas of amenity grassland affected. All existing trees will be retained and their Root Protection Areas (RPAs) protected throughout the works. The lighting design meets obtrusive light requirements for residential properties within the relevant Environmental Zone. The development provides opportunities to enhance biodiversity and deliver Biodiversity Net Gain through appropriate design and landscaping.

Community feedback

We welcome feedback from the whole school community. Comments on the application can be submitted directly through the Elmbridge Borough Council Planning Portal as part of the formal consultation process using this link.

The school is happy to answer questions about the proposal from interested stakeholders and community groups. Please email planning@esherhigh.surrey.sch.uk for further details.
