EHS students create music with Indie band, The Tailormade

40 Year 9 and GCSE students spent a day working together creating music and learning techniques for the composition element of GCSE Music. EHS Music department were able to secure funding from The R C Sherriff Trust to run a songwriting workshop led by the band The Tailormade.

Students looked at the fundamentals of songwriting and composition, exploring song structure, the use of melody and chords and how to write effective lyrics. Students worked with the band in groups to create their own songs and gave fantastic performances at the end of the day.

The students really enjoyed the day

“I really enjoyed the exercise where we looked at song themes; it boosted my confidence and got my mind thinking.” Phoebe – Year 9 student

“I think it was very useful and fun. I liked looking at the process of writing a song, starting with the theme and then coming up with lyric ideas.” Ellie – Year 10 student

“I like the way we created a song from scratch, coming up with the music and working together to give a great performance.” Luca  – Year 10 student

Mrs L O’Neil, Teacher of Music added “As a music teacher, it was lovely to see students from different years working together making music and having fun. All the students worked really hard to give a great performance at the end of the day.”
