Research and Development

Esher CofE High School has a long tradition of working in the field of Research and Development (R&D) and we are proud to be a ‘Lead School’ for R & D working on behalf of the NCTL.  We were commissioned by the NCTL to work with six other schools nationally, to produce the ‘R&D Kit Bag’ for schools – a resource which is designed to help other schools actively engage in meaningful research.

In addition we were recently engaged in two national projects, one, in collaboration with the Institute of Education, on ‘What makes great pedagogy?’ and the other on ‘Closing the Gap’ in partnership with Durham University. We also contribute to the National Advisory Board for R&D.

We have worked hard to incorporate R&D within our school self-evaluation and school development planning processes and we have up to six internal groups running annually to look at specific school improvement issues.   On a local level we are currently working with Surrey University on a project looking at Independent Learning Skills.

We are delighted to run our own ‘in house’ MA in conjunction with St Mary’s University College, Twickenham and have our very own ‘teacher practitioner lecturer’ on our staff who advises on all R&D projects across our school and alliance.

If you would like to engage in R&D and need  to explore ways of getting started, get in touch with us directly to discuss how we may work together on ‘Joint Practice Development Initiatives’ on hwilliamson@esherhigh.surrey.sch.uk
